The Annual Farce that is SAARC

So our Puppet Minister is off to attend yet another SAARC charade. For an international body that has such hoary aims as perpetuating mutual peace and harmony, foster economic growth, improving quality of people’s lives, and enabling people to live a life of dignity, there’s absolutely no record of just one of these objectives being met after 20-plus years of its existence.

The most farcical element of SAARC is having a terrorist state on board and trying to pretend to “engage in fruitful dialogue with it to improve bilateral relations.” It is no different this year.

During his three-day stay, Singh is expected to meet his Pakistani counterpart Yusuf Raza Gilani on the sidelines of the summit and is likely to convey India’s concerns over the recent spurt in cross-border terrorism and ceasefire violations.

And so it will go on for years and years and years until we realize the truth and power of projection. The whole world views us as a soft state because pusillanimity is an important edifice of our foreign policy. For over sixty years, we have not sent out just one strong message that says mischief would be severely punished.

The more appropriate response from the Puppet Minister would be to boycott all SAARC sessions till such time that Pakistan stopped its roguery.
